As a professional landscape architect with my own practice for over 30 years, I am delighted since retirement to have more time to dedicate to painting. In this I can combine both my love of landscape and analytical skills with the joy of painting, both indoors and out. My landscape and seascape paintings, are always of real places, even abstracts, which I prefer to develop from my own sketches and photographs made on site (unless for commissions when they can be from client supplied photos).
My art is mostly Scottish based, where the ever changing light and colour provide infinite challenges and inspiration. During the summer I coordinate an ‘Outdoor Painting and Sketching Group’ for the local branch of the University of the Third Age.
Working initially in watercolour, which I still use in sketchbooks outdoors, I now use mostly acrylic and oil which I enjoy for the vibrancy and ability to use palette knife.
My paintings have been shown in various group exhibitions in the west of Scotland and are in private and corporate collections in the UK and abroad.
Sadly, due to Covid-19 restrictions, there are no gallery exhibitions currently scheduled.
